    IDENTIFICATION

Adult Carpet beetles are small with compact, oval rounded bodies. Legs and head are not obvious, often being hidden under the body.

Larvae are short (4-7mm long, depending on species), brown and covered in bristles; they move slowly. As they grow they moult, leaving cast brown skins.

Larvae of Carpet beetles feed on dry materials of animal origin such as wool, fur, silk, felt, dried meat and carcasses. Carpets, rugs, under felt, wall hangings, clothing, wool insulation and insect collections are frequently damaged. Variegated and Black carpet beetles are the most widespread and damaging species.

    TREATMENT

If an infested article is transportable, remove it from your home for disposal or treatment by DCPC, there is a DIY method of treatment, wrapped in plastic and deep-freeze it for 2 weeks.

Chemical treatments are recommended if the carpet beetles are found eating your carpets, skin mats or clothes.

This service involves a light treatment to all natural fibre carpets, with a Pyrethrum product. We will service around and under all furniture. We recommend treatment to the interior of all linen cupboards and wardrobes.

We will thoroughly explain the process and ways you can help to keep on top of infestation.

An inspection may be required to the roof void or subfloor, if storage is present, to determine if affected by the carpet beetles. If activity is found, treatment to these areas is included.
