When it comes to ants, if you see a few, it won’t be long until your home is over run by them. This is because ants leave a pheromone or scent trail for the colony to follow to a source of food such as a kitchen, pantry and bathrooms.

Here in Australia we have about 3000 species of Ants. Some of the common ants you will find around your home or workplace are:

    -White footed House Ant

    -Black House Ant

    -Coastal Brown Ant

    -Carpenter Ant

Our Service covers all Ant species.

    Control

Successful control of ants requires experience, the best products and thorough knowledge of their nesting and foraging habits.

A comprehensive inspection of the property is conducted to locate and treat the nest. As the nest is the source of the ant infestation, it is usually the most effective way to treat the ant infestation.

We apply liquid product to create barriers to the exterior and interior of the dwelling during our general pest treatment to deter ants from entering your home.

After your treatment it may take up to 3 to 6 weeks to gain control.

Please get in contact with us now to beat your ant problem!

    Carpet Beetles

    IDENTIFICATION

Adult Carpet beetles are small with compact, oval rounded bodies. Legs and head are not obvious, often being hidden under the body.

Larvae are short (4-7mm long, depending on species), brown and covered in bristles; they move slowly. As they grow they moult, leaving cast brown skins.

Larvae of Carpet beetles feed on dry materials of animal origin such as wool, fur, silk, felt, dried meat and carcasses. Carpets, rugs, under felt, wall hangings, clothing, wool insulation and insect collections are frequently damaged. Variegated and Black carpet beetles are the most widespread and damaging species.

    TREATMENT

If an infested article is transportable, remove it from your home for disposal or treatment by DCPC, there is a DIY method of treatment, wrapped in plastic and deep-freeze it for 2 weeks.

Chemical treatments are recommended if the carpet beetles are found eating your carpets, skin mats or clothes.

This service involves a light treatment to all natural fibre carpets, with a Pyrethrum product. We will service around and under all furniture. We recommend treatment to the interior of all linen cupboards and wardrobes.

We will thoroughly explain the process and ways you can help to keep on top of infestation.

An inspection may be required to the roof void or subfloor, if storage is present, to determine if affected by the carpet beetles. If activity is found, treatment to these areas is included.

Cockroaches enter homes to find shelter, water and food. Once they have infested an area they can multiply quickly, posing a threat to your comfort and health. It is important to get rid of Cockroaches before a serious infestation occurs.

Cockroaches are known to carry bacteria that can result in food poisoning, diarrhea, allergies and skin rashes.   They are also known to carry salmonella. In largely infested sites they really STINK, we are able to smell them when we are at the front door.

There are a number of ways that you, the homeowner, can help to prevent Cockroaches. Some of these include:

    • Cleaning
    • Proper food storage
    • Sealing holes and cracks
    • Limiting moisture in the home
    • Don’t leave unwashed dishes in the sink
    • Starving them of food will greatly reduce Cockroach numbers

For more information on how you can help keep cockroaches out, please get in contact with us, we are happy to give FREE ADVICE.

When you engage Dylan Cope’s Pest Control, we assess the infestation and determine the best possible treatment for the types of Cockroaches in your home. Our treatments are perfectly safe for humans and pets and environmentally friendly.

    Steps to Controlling Cockroaches

During your treatment we are looking for signs of Cockroaches. We look for live and dead cockroaches, droppings and egg capsules in areas that they are attracted to.

    This includes:

    • Behind stove, oven, fridge, dishwasher, appliances, cupboards and sinks.
    • Wet areas such as bathroom and laundry in cabinets and drawers.

If your dwelling has a subfloor or roof void, they are inspected to determine the extent of the cockroach infestation and treated accordingly.

Eventually, they will start to disappear around 2 to 4 weeks. From time to time you may see some cockroaches re-appear, be patient, as when they contact our products they will start to die, normally within a few days. If the problem returns so do we, under your service warranty.

    Silverfish

    SILVERFISH

Silverfish are a primitive, wingless insect with six legs. These insects are white to brown-grey or bluish-silver in colour, are teardrop in shape and measure 12mm -19 mm in length. You can identify silverfish by their tapered body and the appearance of silvery scales giving them ‘fish-like’ features.

These insects like to dwell in dark, damp areas such as garages, sheds, kitchens and bathrooms and are capable of thriving in most climates. You may find them trapped in the bottom of your sink.

They are especially attracted to paper and damp clothing. Silverfish are commonly found in cupboards and in stored cardboard boxes.

    SIGNS OF A SILVERFISH INFESTATION

Silverfish are nocturnal and move very quickly.  They hide in dark corners and a severe infestation may go unnoticed for long periods of time, allowing for rampant growth. Holes in your clothes or curtains are often a sign.

    TREATMENT

You don’t want a silverfish infestation to take hold in your home. Therefore, you need to contact us as soon as you see any evidence of them.  If you have an infestation you will need a professional to treat both the adults and their eggs.

We apply a liquid Pyrethrum product (safe for humans, pets and environmentally friendly) to the internal areas of your home including carpets, empty wardrobes, linen cupboard, kitchen and bathrooms.

    Spiders

    SPIDERS

In Australia we have many species of spiders, and to most homeowners, none are welcome! Spiders cause a lot of discomfort to people especially when sharing the home with them.

Although spiders can be poisonous they do not usually cause harm. In fact, since the successful introduction of anti-venom in 1956 there have been very few fatalities from spider bites. But we still do not want them around the home.

Some of the common spiders you may find around your home are:

    • Sydney Funnel Web

    • Red Back Spider

    Treatment

This starts with an inspection of your property to ascertain where the spiders are nesting and harbourage areas.

    Interior

Treating spiders inside your home will involve applying a product to:

    • Floor edges in all rooms
    • Directly treat spiders and webbing

    Roof Void

Is treated with Pyrethrum powder, pressure injected into the void. The powder will penetrate all nooks and crannies, controlling them fast.

    Exterior

We treat around windows, doors, eaves, gutters, external walls, gardens, fencing and interior and exterior of sheds and garages and any areas where spiders could be hiding.

Spraying all harbourage areas, leaving no areas for spiders to hide, treats the subfloor.

    Ground Dwelling Spiders

For dangerous spiders such as Funnel Webs, Mouse or Trapdoor spiders we can use a non-repellent product, which does not aggravate them and prevents flushing them out. These products slowly kill the spiders and they die in their burrows.

We would only recommend a ground Spider service if the problem were severe, as it can be ineffective, at times, on small infestations. Ground dwelling spider services are not covered under our General Pest Service.
