Ensure Your Commercial Property Is Protected Against Termites!
Termite Damage costs about 1.5 Billion* every year in Australia. CSIRO data
A Termite colony can have more than a million hungry workers consuming over 45 kg of timber per year. The average cost of termite treatment and damage repairs is more than $10,000.
Do I have Termites?
Termite activity often goes undetected. If termites find a crack as thin as 2mm in your building structure, they can get in and eat away without any visible signs. That’s why effective Termite control is vital.
IF YOU FIND TERMITES DON’T DISTURB THEM, PROMPTLY CONTACT YOUR LOCAL TERMITE SPECIALIST
Termite Types
- Subterranean Termites
These termites travel underground and often into your buildings undetected, it’s not until months or years later you are confronted by the costs of timber repairs and treatment.
These persistent timber predators eat day and night 24/7. We have seen many buildings severely damaged where repair costs alone were in the order of 20 to 30 thousand dollars.
These are the three main types to worry about in Australia.
These are the four main types of Termites to worry about in Sydney and Illawarra:
- Coptotermes Acinaciformis
- Shedorhinotermes
- Coptotermes Frenchi
- Nasutitermes Walkeri
TERMITE FACTS
- Termites exist across the whole country
- A subterranean termite colony can have more than a million hungry workers consuming over 45kg of timber per year.
- Termites never stop. They feast 24/7.
- Termites can fit through a crack as thin as only 2mm.
SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES
- Are the most common in Sydney and Illawarra
- Nest in trees, timber pallets, stored paper and cardboard even in the soil below the structure and travel unseen upward to feed on the buildings timber or storage.
Arboreal – Above the ground nesting
The arboreal nest is generally connected to another part of the colony in the root crown of the tree. Shelter tubes are characteristic of this species and are often found on the outside of the tree trunk. They pose less risk to buildings than subterranean termites but if left unchecked will destroy the timber in your building.
Signs of Termite Activity
Mud Tubes
Mud tubes connect termites to their food source.
Termite mud lead found behind bedside cabinet.
Termite Droppings
Commonly seen at the base of timber architraves around windows and door jambs. This is a sign that termites are active.
Hollowed or damaged timber
Hollowed timber usually has a honeycomb interior and an empty sound.
Evidence of Swarms
After swarming, termites usually leave discarded wings. There may also be several brown dead termites found. Keep in mind they are attracted to light so even though you may find them inside it doesn’t mean you have termites. An inspection is recommended to be sure
